Radiologists to Tackle Today’s Critical Leadership Challenges at 2015 RLI Expedition

Reston, Va. (Aug. 25, 2014) — Radiology professionals who want to grow and develop as leaders in today’s dynamic health care environment will embark on a unique, three-day leadership challenge at the Radiology Leadership Institute® (RLI) Expedition Feb. 13–15, 2015, at the OMNI Dallas Hotel. The RLI Expedition will provide a radiology-specific, scenario-based learning experience that will enable attendees to put new leadership skills immediately into practice. The RLI was awarded a grant to support the Expedition by The Physicians Foundation, a national nonprofit that seeks to advance the work of practicing physicians and help facilitate the delivery of health care to patients.

“The RLI Expedition provides an opportunity to gain insight into your leadership style and improve upon skills using scenarios that you will most likely encounter as a leader in your profession,” said Cynthia S. Sherry, M.D., FACR, medical director of the Radiology Leadership Institute and chair of the American College of Radiology Commission on Leadership and Practice Development. “The program itself will equip attendees with the tools they need to become stronger, better leaders. As described by previous attendees, the expedition is truly a one-of-a-kind opportunity to grow professionally and personally.”

With an emphasis on real-time feedback and evaluation from renowned experts in the field, the accelerated program will center on simulating actual scenarios, bringing a new dimension to a traditional workshop training session. Attendees will work in small groups along with trained actors and coaches to help shape their leadership skills using real-life practice-based situations that will encourage attendees to apply what they have learned.

In addition to the live simulations, the RLI Expedition will include in-depth skills training sessions on topics such as persuasion and managing change as well as peer consulting opportunities. Prior to the program, a detailed 360 degree evaluation will be compiled with feedback from colleagues to help shape the participant’s learning experience by incorporating what others view as their leadership strengths and weaknesses.

“This is an important initiative to help radiology professionals cultivate valuable leadership skills,” said Alan Plummer, M.D., Physicians Foundation vice president and chairman of the Grants committee. “We are pleased to fund and support the Radiology Leadership Institute and the great work that will emanate from this grant.”
