Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield, Ill., became the first zoo in the United States to have a full-time veterinary radiologist on staff when it hired Marina Ivančić, DVM, DACVR, to care for its animals and consult with other zoos on the side.
The Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association profiled the move on its website. According to the article, Brookfield Zoo has fluoroscopy, ultrasonography, and is one of three zoos in North America to have its own CT scanner. Animals are transported off site when MRI is required.
"Having a radiologist on site here allows us to provide the highest level of medicine that we can practice as zoo veterinarians," Ivančić said in the story.
