Radiology Partners to join the American College of Radiology’s R-SCAN network

Radiology Partners (RP), the largest on-site radiology group in the U.S., have announced it will join the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Radiology Support, Communication and Alignment Network (R-SCAN).

RP is one of the 60 practices to join the national effort seeking to improve imaging appropriateness and streamline image ordering.

R-SCAN connects radiologists and referring physicians by providing tools, information, and network support needed to improve quality of care, increase patients’ access to information, and spend health care dollars more wisely.  As a part of R-SCAN, Radiology Partners and its referring providers will be guided by a step-by-step plan to improve the ordering of imaging exams, access to a customized version of the ACR's clinical decision support tool and the complete ACR Appropriateness Criteria.

“R-SCAN provides a platform for radiologists and other healthcare providers to take the lead in significantly impacting the transition to value-based care,” said Max Wintermark, MD, clinical advisor of the American College of Radiology’s R-SCAN program. “Clinical decision support and resources provided by R-SCAN can enhance providers’ existing quality assurance efforts and help them optimize imaging care for their patients.”

RP plans to focus on the “Adnexal Cyst Follow Up” topic, which recommends avoiding follow-up imaging for clinically inconsequential adnexal cysts in the female pelvis. RP will be able to enhance appropriate care and reduce unnecessary ultrasounds, reduce unnecessary follow-up studies and ensure best practicesfor patients who do need follow-up care.
