Detroit healthcare group improves radiotherapy capabilities

Treating only cancer cells without harming surrounding tissue and organs has become the focus of those directly involved in cancer care.

ViewRay, a producer of linear accelerator-based radiotherapy technology, has reached an agreement with Henry Ford Health System in Detroi to provide such services to the Detroit-based healthcare group.

Henry Ford is the second, alongside the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, to adopt ViewRay’s technology. The MRI-guided process delivers radiation to the tumors while attempting to avoid healthy organs. Still only available for non-clinical research, ViewRay is continuing to evolve into standard radiation vaults to further enhance patient care.

"We see a lot of value in ViewRay's Linac-based technology," said Benjamin Movsas, MD, chair of radiation oncology at Henry Ford Health System. "We are very excited and honored to be taking a leadership role in the assessment of this next-generation technology, as part of our efforts to continually bring the best care to our patients with cancer."
