How a McDonald’s restaurant played a pivotal role in the history of medical imaging

One of the first outpatient MRI providers in the United States was originally a McDonald’s owned by the company’s famous CEO, Ray Kroc. That’s one of several bits of trivia included in a new article from Forbes focused on the history of MRIs.

In 1984, the McDonald’s in question was purchased and transformed into an imaging center that is still open and running to this day. The business did not make profit for the first three years, the Forbes article revealed. But once insurance providers started covering MRI scans, all of that changed.

The article goes on to track the progress of outpatient MRI in the United States.
