Computers were seized and several arrests made when state authorities raided multiple locations in a Medicaid fraud investigation into the American Imaging Center chain based in Hackensack, N.J., according to an article on the Cliffview Pilot website.
Rehan Zuberi, president, and wife Humara Paracha, were arrested at their home and held on multiple charges, ranging from income tax evasion to racketeering. The raid resulted in several of the centers being closed and patients being redirected to other locations.
According to the article in the Cliffview Pilot, Zuberi previously served 10 months in state prison for his role in a Medicaid fraud money-laundering scheme that involved referrals for unnecessary blood tests to a clinic he operated. As a result, he was prohibited from participating in the Medicaid program, but was reinstated three years ago.
The company’s web site lists nine American Imaging Center sites in Northern New Jersey, and another five locations in Southern New Jersey operating under the name AIMS.
