Lawsuit filed after X-ray reveals scalpel in veteran’s abdomen

Army veteran Glenford Turner filed a malpractice lawsuit against the United States and the state of Connecticut after an X-ray indicated a scalpel was left in his abdomen during prostate cancer surgery at the VA Hospital in West Haven four years ago. According to a report from NBC Connecticut, the scalpel was removed in April 2017.

To diagnose the source of the abdominal pain, Turner first underwent an MRI but the process was stopped as he was experiencing additional pain.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal weighed in through a statement by asking for a detailed explanation and “full accountability” from the VA.

“America owes our veterans the world’s best medical care, nothing less," Blumenthal said.
