New York radiology group purchases van to deliver on-the-go mammography

Windsong Radiology Group, a Williamsville, New York-based radiology practice, has rolled out a new Mobile Mammography Unit to help increase the number of women receiving mammograms.

Windsong Radiology Group was one of five healthcare providers that received a three-year grant from New York’s Department of Health and Health Research to purchase a mobile unit. The group has already compiled a list of 130 potential locations where it may drive the van in its first year of operation.

The Buffalo News ran a report on Windsong Radiology Group’s newest purchase and interviewed Markus Holzhauer, MD, the company’s director of mobile mammography.

“The reason we decided eventually to do this—and I made the case for it—is that there is a great opportunity for outreach, to cover certain pockets of the population which don't have easy access to imaging facilities, and don't have the transportation or referring physicians,” Holzhauer said, as quoted by the Buffalo News.
