FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. has acquired TeraMedica, Inc., a global healthcare informatics company known for its vendor neutral archiving (VNA) technology. The company is now known as FUJIFILM TeraMedica, Inc.

TeraMedica’s VNA technology, which earned the KLAS Caregory Leader Award in 2014,  allows patient data to be shared between disparate healthcare IT applications.

Jim Morgan, vice president of medical informatics at Fujifilm Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc., is enthusiastic about the synergies between the two companies.

“As a leader in clinical archiving, TeraMedica is at the forefront of the Vendor Neutral Archive market. It is a company with talented people and unique technology that will strengthen our position in healthcare informatics,” Morgan said in a statement. “Together, we will be able to deliver medical informatics solutions that acquire, analyze, interpret and present patient data in ways that are meaningful for providers in the most challenging environments.”

Jim Prekop, president and CEO of TeraMedica, Inc., will hold the same position at FUJIFILM TeraMedica, Inc, which will maintain offices in Milwaukee, Wis.  The deal will help the business prepare for the road ahead, he said.

“The VNA market is expected to see significant growth in the coming years, and now with the combined strength of FUJIFILM Medical Systems, we have the ability to meet this demand,” Prekop said in a statement. “This transaction will bring together the complementary strengths of Fujifilm’s best-in-class software and services with TeraMedica’s pioneering VNA, maximizing our operational efficiencies.”

The two companies have been working together since March 2013, when they began their partnership in VNA technology.
