Researchers will now be able to find out what’s going on in study subjects’ brains as they move around, perform tasks or speak. That’s because a project from doctors at the University of Virginia Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging have invented the first wearable PET scanner, called the AM-PET Helmet.

According to Digital Trends, the helmet’s purpose will be to bring insights about how the brain works in situations that can’t be replicated inside a lab or while a subject is stuck laying down inside a machine. One of the helmet’s creaters, Stan Majewski, even thinks it could help find cures for brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
