French radiologist Ali Guermazi, MD, PhD, is the first in his field to receive the Osteoarthritis Research Society International’s Clinical Research Award for his work in imaging, the Boston University School of Medicine announced this week.
The award was presented to Guermazi April 27 at the OARSI World Congress in Liverpool, England, according to a release. He is the first radiologist to receive the accolade, which recognizes excellence in clinical research related to osteoarthritis.
Guermazi is the founder and director of the Quantitative Imaging Center at BU’s School of Medicine, where he is also a radiology professor and assistant dean of diversity. In addition to serving as the MRI reader for research projects like the Framingham Heart Study, Health ABC Study and Osteoarthritis Initiative, he was appointed deputy editor of Radiology’s musculoskeletal imaging section in 2013. Guermazi is also the expert radiologist to the International Olympic Committee and has been since 2016.
