Ruth Carlos named new JACR editor-in-chief

The American College of Radiology (ACR) has announced that Ruth C. Carlos, MD, MS, will be the new editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR), officially beginning her term in January 2019. She succeeds Bruce J. Hillman, MD, the JACR’s founding editor.

Carlos is a professor in the department of radiology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She previously served as the JACR’s deputy editor and has been contributing to the publication for the last 12 years. Overall, Carlos has more than two decades of experience in radiology and medical journalism.

“Bruce Hillman, the inaugural editor-in-chief, shaped the JACR into one of the most widely read and influential journals advancing our priority to deliver exceptional evidence-based care,” Carlos said in a prepared statement. “I am truly honored to succeed Bruce in this position and look forward to guiding the journal into its next phase of growth and impact.”

“Ruth’s creativity, perseverance and intellectual skills are first rate,” Hillman said in the same statement. “Her years of experience developing online features and leading our social media initiatives will serve her well as she considers strategies to further her goals for the journal. I am honored to have her succeed me as editor-in-chief of JACR. I expect to see great things from the journal during her watch as editor.”
