Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Hong Kong’s first female chief executive, has said government officials are currently considering a population-wide mammography program.
The number of women who died from breast cancer was 702 in 2016, according to a report from South China Morning Post. This was up from 637 in 2015.
“There is a need for the government and the medical sector to conduct more research and collect more data, in order to explore whether it is appropriate to implement universal breast cancer screening for asymptomatic women or those at average risk,” Lam said, as quoted by South China Morning Post.
