Patient access bill passes Pennsylvania House of Representatives

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has voted in favor of House Bill 1233, which requires outpatient imaging providers to directly notify the patient if there is a finding that requires follow-up care. The final vote was 196 to 1, according to the Sharon Herald.

State representative Marguerite Quinn sponsored the bill, which now moves to the state senate.

According to Quinn’s website, the legislation does not apply to inpatient diagnostic imaging tests, obstetric ultrasounds or x-rays.

The York County House Republican Delegation issued a statement in favor of the bill.

“We’re pleased to join our colleagues in the House, in support of this important legislation to improve patient access to diagnostic imaging test results,” the delegation wrote. “This legislation is a win for the health of all Pennsylvanians. Access to diagnostic testing results will empower patients to become more active in providing for their care and ensuring they receive the necessary treatments. We encourage the Senate to consider this legislation swiftly, so Gov. Tom Wolf may sign this into law without delay.”
