The American College of Radiology (ACR) announced this week that it has released numerous updates to its ACR Appropriateness Criteria guidelines.

Changes included eight new criteria and updates to 15 additional criteria. Some of the new criteria that have been added are “Imaging after shoulder arthroplasty,” “Assessment of fetal well-being,” and “Management of recurrent endometrial cancer.”

“ACR Appropriateness Criteria enhance quality of care by helping health care providers choose the most appropriate medical imaging exam, radiologic interventional procedure or radiation therapy for the patient’s condition,” E. Kent Yucel, MD, chair of the ACR Committee on Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology Appropriateness Criteria, said in a prepared statement. “Such criteria use in exam ordering can improve quality, reduce unnecessary exams and lower costs.”

ACR Appropriateness Criteria now includes 215 topics and more than 1,000 clinical indications.
