Image Wisely announces new safety case focused on radiation dose in CT exams

Image Wisely announced Monday that its newest radiation safety case, Child-sizing CT Dose: Optimizing Patient Care Through Quality Improvement– Pediatric and Adult Imaging, is now available online.

“This case is designed to provide practical explanations of some of the newer technologies and terminology associated with CT scans,” study lead author Keith Strauss, MSc, of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, said in a statement.

Eric Gingold, PhD, director of the Image Wisely Radiation Safety Case series and member of the Image Wisely Executive Committee, said in the same statement that it is crucial for imaging professionals to learn as much as possible about radiation safety.

“CT imaging is invaluable to medicine; however, it does expose patients to ionizing radiation,” he said. “Practitioners should be cognizant of the potential risks involved and informed about the appropriate use of the technology.”

Image Wisely, an initiative developed by the American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, American Society of Radiologic Technologists, and American Association of Physicists in Medicine, is presenting safety cases related to radiation dose throughout 2017.

More information on this case can be found on Image Wisely’s website.
