FDA clears modules for AI-based CT solution from Siemens Healthineers

Siemens Healthineers announced Thursday, Sept. 26, that it has received FDA clearance for three modules of the company’s AI-Rad Companion Chest CT software. The approvals cover the AI-Rad Companion Engine, Pulmonary and Cardiovascular modules.

This cloud-based solution can assist providers by scanning CT images and identifying potential abnormalities in a patient’s lungs, heart and aorta. The software also automatically completes standardized reports for radiologists to access through their health system’s PACS.

“AI-Rad Companion Chest CT builds on our decades-long expertise in AI and machine learning, digitalizing healthcare and helping providers perform multi-organ image interpretation of the chest with enhanced detection, accuracy, and precision, which can potentially improve outcomes,” David Pacitti, president and head of the Americas at Siemens Healthineers, said in a prepared statement.

AI-Rad Companion Chest CT, according to the statement, has been tested and confirmed with imaging equipment from vendors other than Siemens Healthineers, including GE Healthcare and Philips Healthcare.
