ClearRead +Confirm, new software from Riverain Technologies that improves the clarity of conventional X-ray images, has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). According to the press release, portable chest X-ray machines are routinely used to confirm the placement of lines and tubes but they often need adjustments to make the edges and tips of the devices stand out, which can be time consuming. ClearRead +Confirm increases readability by selectively increasing contrast and suppressing the clavicles and ribs in the image, removing obstacles that could obscure the visibility of feeding, drug delivery and pain management tubes, lines and cardiac wires. In a Georgetown University reader study, 334 chest X-rays were each reviewed by 10 radiologists with and without ClearRead +Confirm. The software reduced reading times by approximately 19% without compromising accuracy.
