Eleven women tested positive during the ninth annual Pink Caravan Ride, a breast cancer screening initiative held in the United Arab Emirates. They were all sent for further examination by healthcare providers.
The event, first launched in 2011, provided free screenings to 7,200 UAE citizens and residents, according to reporting from WAM. All women who tested positive were over the age of 40.
“As a majority of the detected cases are among patients in the above-40 age group, we reiterate the importance of regular self-examination for early detection, especially once a woman turns 40,” said Reem Bin Karam, chairperson of the Pink Caravan Ride Higher Steering Committee, as quoted in the report. “If the cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, the survival rate is as high as 98%. Therefore, it’s imperative that women take their health seriously.”
