Patients needing an MRI at the Nair Hospital in Mumbai, India, will have to wait until 2020, as the “overburdened radiology department” only has only one functioning MRI machine, according to a report by the Hindustan Times. While the hospital receives 50 to 60 patients on a daily basis for MRI, staff can only perform 12 to 15 MRIs daily.
Nair Hospital has been in the news this year for negligence, after a 32-year-old man—Rajesh Maru—was told by hospital staff he could walk into the MRI room with a gas cylinder. He was pronounced dead after the cylinder was sucked in by the magnetic waves, taking Maru with it.
“We feel bad telling patients to come after 15-16 months, but there is no other way out as the machine can only perform as many MRI scans in a day,” a Nair Hospital resident told the Hindustan Times.
Patients needing an MRI had been advised to go to nearby hospitals for exams.
