Center for Diagnostic Imaging enters new market with acquisition of 8 outpatient radiology centers

The Center for Diagnostic Imaging, a growing radiology practice based in Minneapolis, is expanding into a new market with the acquisition of eight outpatient centers, company officials said Tuesday.

CDI recently reached an agreement to purchase two practices with decades of experience in Salt Lake City. Those include 30-year-old Open Imaging and its three locations, along with five more operated by U.S. MRI, in business for more than two decades.

“We’ve been very active in the market looking for attractive, strategic growth opportunities, and we’re excited to be entering the fast-growing Salt Lake City market with the acquisition of two first-rate organizations,” Rick Long, CDI’s president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “Open Imaging and U.S. MRI have a long history in Utah, and both are a natural fit for CDI with their shared commitment to quality, value, access and service excellence.”

The Center for Diagnostic Imaging bills itself as the “nation’s leader” in outpatient diagnostic radiology services, managing more than 130 centers in 22 states. Officials said they’ll continue to seek further deals in the near term, focusing on “high quality providers in attractive markets.”

“Expect to see more acquisitions and partnerships in this and other markets across the U.S. that fit with this strategy,” Long added.
