US Radiology Specialists-backed practice acquiring 30-year-old outpatient imaging facility

A U.S. Radiology Specialists-backed practice is acquiring a nearly 30-year-old diagnostic imaging center in Amherst, New York, company leaders revealed recently.

Windsong Radiology announced its acquisition of Buffalo MRI on Aug. 2 but did not disclose terms of the deal. First founded in 1992, the 13,000 square-foot facility is centrally located and offers the full range of diagnostic services, including MRI, CT, mammography, ultrasound, fluoroscopy and X-ray.

“Windsong Radiology strives to be a leader in offering patients and their physicians the highest quality outpatient imaging services," President Thomas Summers, MD, said in a statement. “We're excited to welcome the patients of Buffalo MRI into the Windsong family.”

U.S. Radiology Specialists made its first foray into New York state back in December, adding Windsong and its five outpatient imaging locations. The growing Raleigh, North Carolina-based imaging group now spans across 14 states, operating 160 centers and completing more than 7 million studies annually. USRS said previously that it’s plotting double-digit growth in 2021 fueled by mergers, acquisitions and organic growth.

They’re renaming the center Buffalo MRI by Windsong and will continue offering same-day exams read by board-certified rads. U.S. Radiology Specialists said the addition accelerates its growth toward “building the nation’s leading outpatient imaging services network,” while extending its northeast presence to serve more patients and referrers.
