Charlotte Radiology forms new venture, US Radiology Specialists, with healthcare investment firm

Charlotte Radiology, a private radiology practice based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, and the healthcare investment firm of Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe (WCAS) have announced the formation of a new venture, US Radiology Specialists.

Charlotte Radiology has been providing radiology services to patients for more than 50 years and employs more than 120 physicians and care practitioners. WCAS was founded in 1979 and has a current portfolio of approximately 20 companies.

“US Radiology Specialists is a physician-owned and quality-focused group set up to support our mission of providing exceptional patient care,"  Bob Mittl, MD, chairman of the clinical governance board for Charlotte Radiology and a board member for US Radiology Specialists, said in a prepared statement. “We are excited to form US Radiology Specialists in a joint partnership with highly experienced and like-minded partners such as WCAS.”

In addition, John Perkins, who most recently served as the CEO at Bio Products Laboratory, has been named the CEO of US Radiology Specialists and a member of its board of directors.

“I am incredibly excited to partner with Charlotte Radiology and WCAS to create US Radiology Specialists,” Perkins said in the same statement. “I strongly believe in our model of a national, physician-owned partnership, that is closely aligned with leading health systems to provide the highest quality patient care.”
