Semi-retired radiologist gaining recognition for his unique art

Paul M. Silverman, MD, is a semi-retired diagnostic radiologist gaining attention for an unexpected reason: his art.

Silverman crafts his art from clay, creating various surfaces and shapes he sees when visiting antique shops or recalling memories from his childhood. Making these pieces, he noted, is a nice chance of pace after spending his career in medical imaging.

“In medicine, everything is urgent, and you are never allowed to make a mistake,” Silverman said in an in-depth profile from Asheville Made. “Whereas in art, sometimes a mistake can lead you down a whole different path and be very rewarding.”
