Technologist fired after using racial slur during disagreement

A technologist at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, has been fired for using a racial slur Aug. 11 at a local donut shop.

The technologist, Kyle Thomas, was upset about his service and used the racial slur as the incident began to escalate. The confrontation was filmed and quickly went viral, receiving significant mainstream media attention.

“We are aware of the confrontation captured on video involving one of our off duty employees at a local donut shop,” a hospital spokesman said to WJTV in Jackson. “We take this situation very seriously. This employee's language and behavior does not represent our organization's values and his employment has been terminated.”

WJTV said it is working to reach Thomas for comment.
