More than 200 people braved the waters of the chilly Boulder County Reservoir in Colorado in an effort to raise money for the American Cancer Society for the 37th annual Polar Plunge. Participants raised a total of $30,000 during the event.
“The money that we raise here today helps support cancer research as well as help patients who are going through cancer—if they need a ride to treatment, (or) a place to stay, if they’re traveling for their treatment,” Amanda Seier, senior manager of community development at the American Cancer Society, told KCNC-TV in Denver.
Participant Ivan Cardona told KCNC-TV he was participating for his aunt, who has been battling breast cancer for two decades.
“She’s been like another mother for me,” he told KCNC-TV. “She’s been doing all the chemo and all the treatments, and right now she’s been declared a survivor.”
