The Rhode Island Supreme Court has upheld the 60-year prison sentence of the man who murdered radiologist Alfred C. Moon, from Lincoln, Rhode Island, back in 1999.
According to reporting from the Providence Journal, Angel Navarro admitted to beating Moon to death in 2006 after the case had been unsolved for many years. As a part of his plea deal, the charge was reduced to second-degree murder. According to comments Navarro’s lawyer made at the time of the sentencing, he committed the murder after a night that included using heroin and drinking liquor.
The Providence Journal explained that Navarro had filed a motion for post-conviction relief because he claimed he did not fully understand that he was waving his constitutional rights when he pleaded no contest to the murder.
