Elsevier’s decision support tool helps radiologists cut down on diagnostic errors

New research shows that STATdx, Elsevier’s new online diagnostic decision support tool, can reduce diagnostic errors by radiologists by 19 percent.

STATdx gives radiologists access to 4,300 diagnoses, 200,000 images and detailed content written by a team of experienced specialists. Sixty radiologists took part in the study, with 30 using STATdx to interpret a set of 10 cases and 30 not using it.

Overall, the radiologists using STATdx had 19 percent fewer diagnostic errors and their confidence was increased by 10 percent. For more difficult cases, diagnostic error was reduced by 37 percent.

“These results are a testimony to the quality of STATdx and validates its position as a top notch online diagnostic decision support tool,” Maite Salazar, vice president of commercial strategy and revenue, said in a prepared statement. “STATdx gives validated instant access to the collective clinical experience and knowledge of renowned subspecialists in every field of radiology.”
