HIMSS and SIIM join forces to tackle enterprise imaging challenges

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) are teaming up in an effort to advance the adoption and capabilities of enterprise-wide image sharing strategies, according to a press release.

The project, titled the HIMSS-SIIM Enterprise Imaging Workgroup, consists of an experienced group of imaging thought leaders and health IT professionals tasked with creating awareness of the importance of images as part of the electronic health record across the continuum of care.

Specifically, the goals of the workgroup are to:

  • Provide education;
  • Support standards development;
  • Address current challenges; and
  • Develop tools to accommodate the changing environment that expands the imaging domain across the healthcare enterprise.

“This joint effort between HIMSS and SIIM highlights the importance of this topic,” said HIMSS vice president of informatics Joyce Sensmeier, “and provides timely resources that offer organizations insights on how to manage and share imaging data across the enterprise.”
