Patient awarded $540K after misfiled radiology report results in missed tuberculosis diagnosis

A patient from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, has been awarded 700,000 Canadian dollars (more than $540,000) due to a missed tuberculosis diagnosis back in 2008.

Alexander Lantin was 16 when he first visited Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg presenting with flu-like symptoms, according to a report from CBC News. A chest x-ray was ordered, and the radiologist said in his report that tuberculosis was a possible diagnosis—but that radiology report was misfiled.

The missed diagnosis has had a strong effect on Lantin’s life, according to CBC News, affecting the kind of work he can do on a daily basis.
