RSNA partners with SIIM to develop online imaging informatics course

RSNA and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) have teamed up to develop a new weeklong course dedicating to learning the basics of imaging informatics.

The online course was first developed with senior radiology residents in mind, but RSNA and SIIM aimed to expand its reach by allowing non-resident trainees, faculty, attending physicians and other interested parties to register.

“Imaging informatics affects so much of how we take care of patients every day,” Tessa Cook, MD, PhD, an assistant professor of radiology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, said in a statement. “It’s important to have an understanding of these fundamental principles to be able to troubleshoot when things go wrong, but also to have a better understanding of how our systems work.”

The course will use live lectures and group discussions to help participants learn as much as possible about this key subject. Homework assignments will be handed out throughout the week.

“We really tried to leverage the concept of a massive open online course to bring the education to the learners rather than the other way around,” Cook said.

The National Imaging Informatics Course-Radiology is scheduled to take place from Sept. 27 to Oct. 1. More informational is available here.
