American College of Radiology forms new partnership to target under-imaged communities

The American College of Radiology is forming a new partnership with one philanthropic organization in a bid to boost imaging care in underserved geographies, leaders announced Tuesday.

ACR is teaming up with Maryland-based Rad-Aid International to lend its “Case in Point” educational platform to improve care at struggling hospitals in low- and middle-income countries.

“We are thrilled to work with Rad-Aid to increase accessibility to radiology education. Our efforts will provide communities across the globe with the resources they need to help improve the quality of patient care,” William Thorwarth Jr., MD, chief executive of the ACR, said in a statement.

Rad-Aid plans to distribute the web-based educational tools through its Learning Center in the coming months. It will target and focus on topics in “high yield areas of learning” that are most relevant to local imaging staffs, according to the announcement.

Founded in 2008, Rad-Aid deploys some 12,000 volunteers through outreach programs in 35 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. U.S. imaging giant Radiology Partners also announced a partnership with Rad-Aid in March.
