ECR 2019 receives record number of abstract submissions

The European Society of Radiology (ESR) announced that abstract submissions for the 2019 European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna, Austria, increased by 18 percent compared to 2018's meeting.

A record number of abstracts—8,469—were submitted, 1,200 more than the previous year. There was an increase in abstract submissions for the following topic categories: Interventional Radiology, Hybrid, Molecular and Translational Imaging and Neuro. Additionally, the ECR received 263 submissions for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, a new topic at the conference.

“I would like to extend a big ‘Grazie’ to all abstract submitters,” ESR President Lorenzo Derchi, MD, said in a prepared statement. “Active scientific contributions are the cornerstone of every congress and I am almost speechless by this new record in submitted abstracts and the level of commitment shown to us from all over the world.”

The countries with the highest increase in abstracts compared to 2018 submissions were India (84 percent), the US (44 percent) and Egypt (41 percent).

ECR 2019 is scheduled to be held Feb. 27-March 3, 2019.
