ESR proudly supports radiologists in Ukraine

Vienna, April 03, 2017 (ESR) – Ukraine has become the latest country to benefit from the ESR Support Initiative, with various actions planned to boost educational opportunities for imaging professionals and trainees in the country, sponsored by the European Society of Radiology (ESR), for a period of one year, starting in March 2017.

Starting in 2015, the ESR Support Initiative has been improving access to radiological training and educational resources for aspiring physicians and scientists in less affluent regions in Europe. The project focuses on one country each year, with the ultimate goal of ensuring better healthcare for future generations.

Support Initiative activities in Ukraine began on March 21, one day before the 5th Ukrainian Congress of Radiology in Kiev, with the ESOR Visiting Professorship Programme on  Advanced Oncologic Imaging. During this one-day programme, well known European faculty members in their field delivered a high-quality one-day teaching programme for 70 young radiologists, including lectures and interactive workshop presentations.

The faculty was impressed by the enthusiastic uptake and active engagement among participants, and the President and Past President of the Association of Radiologists of Ukraine – Prof. Tatyana Yalinskaya and Prof. Volodymyr Rogozhyn, respectively – were very satisfied with the successful programme, headed by Prof. Nicholas Gourtsoyiannis, Scientific/Educational Director of the European School of Radiology (ESOR).

Ukraine, after Bulgaria and Romania, is the third country to receive a wide range of benefits supported by the ESR, such as the ESOR Visiting Professorship Programme, reserved places on the ESOR Visiting Scholarship Programme for trainee radiologists and the ESOR Exchange Programme for Fellowships for recently board certified radiologists, as well as allocated places for the ESR’s Invest in the Youth programme, which enables young radiologists to attend the ESR’s annual meeting, the European Congress of Radiology, free of charge, with hotel costs included.

Institutional Member Societies may apply in writing to be considered as a candidate for the ESR Support Initiative by sending an e-mail to boardaffairs@myESR.org
