European Society of Radiology celebrates record number of US members

The European Society of Radiology (ESR) has announced that, as of Aug. 6, its membership includes 7,277 representatives from the United States.

This represents a new record for the most ESR members from the United States. There is just one other country—India—that can count a higher number of representatives as members.

“We have always had good relations with our American colleagues, and I am thrilled that our efforts to foster increased cooperation are now bearing fruit and showing in the ESR membership figures,” Lorenzo E. Derchi, MD, chair of the ESR Board of Directors, said in a prepared statement. “We have been working closely together for years, in several committees and working groups, in particular in radiation protection and clinical decision support, cooperating with RSNA and American College of Radiology officers and other top radiologists from the United States. We are glad that we are now increasingly attracting regular members of the American radiological community, too.”

In addition, the ESR announced that more than 40 radiologists from the United States are scheduled to attend ECR 2020, the group’s annual meeting, in Vienna March 11-15, 2020.

“We are proud to say that the ECR has always been a favorite platform for our American colleagues to share their scientific achievements, and this is reflected in the high number of outstanding speakers year after year,” Boris Brkljačić, who will serve as ESR’s president during ESR 2020, said in the same statement.
