WWE, Susan G. Komen honor Missouri radiologist

Radiologist Amy Patel, MD, was chosen as one of five finalists in the Champions of Hope contest organized by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Susan G. Komen. The contest celebrates wrestling fans who make an impact on the fight against breast cancer in the United States.

The recognition came as a result of Patel’s backstory, according to a report from WDAF-TV in Kansas City. Patel is the medical director of women’s imaging at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri, and a member of both the American College of Radiology and Society of Breast Imaging. Until recently, she was working at Harvard University in Boston—but then she decided to return to her roots in rural Missouri. Patel spoke with Radiology Business in October 2018 about the differences between providing breast imaging services in urban and rural areas.

And, yes, Patel considers herself a fan of the dropkicks and DDTs of professional wrestling.

“I grew up watching it because my brother was such a huge fan,” Patel said, as quoted by WDAF-TV.
