MITA praises new research calling for repeal of medical device tax

The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) has issued a statement in support of new research from the Pacific Research Institute (PRI) focused on issues with the medical device tax and why the PRI believes that tax should be repealed. The 2.3 percent tax was first implemented as a piece of President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act.

Back in July, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to repeal the tax, which has already been temporarily suspended on two separate occasions.

“A substantial bipartisan majority of U.S. Representatives voted overwhelmingly to permanently repeal the medical device tax in July,” Joe Robinson, chairman of the MITA board of directors, said in a prepared statement. “We ask the Senate to finish the job this year and vote to permanently repeal the device tax.”

In January, MITA wrote a letter to Congress calling for the tax to be fully repealed.
