Hospitals across the African country of Tanzania have been ordered to install modern radiology equipment and to train staffers in the use of such devices.
Nearly 100 of the region’s 664 hospitals “have no radiology apparatus” on the premises, despite laws requiring their availability, the Citizen Tanzania reported Dec. 23.
This revelation was made during recent training courses for lab techs at local hospitals. Lazaro Busagara, director general of the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission, told the newspaper that hospital inspections are ongoing, and at least three institutions have also been banned from providing imaging services due to defective equipment.
