Cheers! Retired developer of MRI scanners enters whiskey business

Dave Molyneaux retired after a long, fruitful career as a developer of MRI accessories, but he quickly grew bored with the quiet life. That’s when he decided to enter a new industry altogether: the whiskey business.

At the end of December, The Ledger, a newspaper that covers news in Lakeland, Fla., reported on Molyneaux’s new line of work, and it’s a fascinating story about someone staying busy after moving on past the imaging industry.

The article covers both Molyneaux career designing MRI accessories—which included forming the company MRI Devices before it was eventually bought by Philips in 2006—and his decision to leap into the world of making whiskey.

What made him decide to make the big change from diagnostics to distilling? The answer is more straightforward than you may imagine.

“I decided, ‘Hey, I love spirits. I like a good whiskey. I’m going to make whiskey,'” Molyneaux said, as reported by The Ledger.

Just like that, the article explains, Molyneaux began researching spirits around the clock, even leasing a workspace and setting his sights on opening up a distillery.
