Hologic gains FDA approval for two improvements to 3Dimensions breast tomosynthesis system

Hologic announced that it has gained FDA approval for two new additions to the company’s 3Dimensions breast tomosynthesis system.

Clarity HD high-resolution 3D imaging and Intelligent 2D imaging technology are both now available in the U.S. According to a prepared statement from Hologic, these additions allow the 3Dimensions system to provide “higher resolution 3D images for radiologists, enhanced workflow technologists and a more comfortable mammography experience, with low-dose options, for patients.”

The Clarity HD high-resolution 3D imaging technology helps providers deliver high-quality 3D images, while the Intelligent 2D imaging technology gives radiologists clear, detailed images with a low radiation dose.

“Our experience as a leader in breast cancer screening has taught us that radiologists and technologists value accuracy above all else,” Tracy Accardi, Hologic’s global vice president of research and development, breast and skeletal health solutions, said in the statement. “We developed the 3Dimensions system with that in mind, while adding two features that have great potential to improve patient satisfaction.”
