The American College of Radiology (ACR) announced Tuesday that its ACR Commission on Patient- and Family-Centered Care had added a new education committee, which will work to encourage industry professionals to emphasize patient engagement, patient experience and patient satisfaction.

James V. Rawson, MD, chair of the commission, explained in a prepared statement why these areas are so important right now in radiology.

“The call for patient-centered care is transforming the way radiology is practiced,” he said. “The ACR is responding by developing a unified educational strategy to meet radiologists’ needs to put the concepts of patient engagement and value vs volume into practice.”

Cheri L. Canon, MD, is the new education committee’s chair. She will be joined by 30 other radiology professionals from throughout the United States.
