SCAI and four other major healthcare organizations signed a joint letter in support of intravascular ultrasound. 

Increasing the use of intravascular ultrasound when performing lower-extremity revascularization procedures could limit complications and improve patient outcomes, according to new recommendations from several medical societies.

The policies cover a wide range of interventional therapies, including Shockwave Medical's IVL technology and intravascular ultrasound. 

Recent evidence confirms that interventional radiology produces solid clinical outcomes while beating surgery on the cost-effectiveness of numerous procedures.

Numerous medical imaging societies, including the ACR, signed onto a letter dated Feb. 25 that was sent to members of Congress requesting collaboration on reforms to the Medicare physician payment system.

The American Medical Association, Society of Interventional Radiology, and others are pressing appeals courts to suspend previous rulings. 

Advocates have said these changes would necessitate “massive” pay reductions, with interventional radiologists and radiation oncologists bearing the brunt. 

The measure to extend funding through Feb. 18 does not include any of the changes championed by physicians.
