Philips to move North American headquarters within Massachusetts

Royal Philips announced it will be relocating its North American headquarters in Massachusetts from Andover to Cambridge in 2020. The new location, including a 243,000-square-foot facility, will house 2,000 employees, while 300 ultrasound system manufacturing positions will stay in Andover, according to the Boston Globe.

Philips CEO Frans van Houten announced the move Jan. 10, citing the new location’s strengths compared to Cambridge.

“This is all about location and proximity to innovation,” he said to the Globe. “We need to be in the hot spots of health care innovation, close to universities, where you can find the talent for the next generation of innovation.”

The new facility will be the company’s largest in North America and focus on CT scanning machines and patient monitoring systems.
