University of Cincinnati announces new radiology chair

Mary Mahoney, MD, has been named the chair of the University of Cincinnati’s department of radiology, the school announced this week. Maloney had been serving as interim chair since August 2014.

"I’m honored and eager to continue in this leadership role,” Mahoney said in a prepared statement. "My goals are to strengthen the already impressive educational, research and clinical missions within the department while supporting my faculty and relationships with colleagues to support multidisciplinary possibilities within the college and the university at large.”

Mahoney first joined the University of Cincinnati faculty in 1989. She has worked as both a professor in the department and the school’s Eugene L. and Sue R. Saenger Chair of Radiological Services.

Mahoney is also the director of the Breast Imaging Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and serves on the Board of Governors for the American Board of Radiology and the Board of Directors for the Radiological Society of North America.

In addition, she was selected for the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) program, a year-long fellowship for women faculty in schools of medicine, in 2015. Mahoney spoke with RadiologyBusiness.com after being selected for the ELAM program and she called it a “wonderful opportunity.”

“Some of the things the program teaches you are leadership skills, management skills and how to deal with tough situations, so I’m really looking forward to honing my skills,” Mahoney said.

This new appointment went into effect on Feb. 2.
