Analogic Corporation completes CT screening trials in European airports

Analogic Corporation, a medical imaging and airport security technology company based out of Peabody, Mass., announced today it has concluded European airport trials for its carry-on baggage CT screening system.

Analogic’s CT checkpoint systems were evaluated at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and London Luton Airport for two years to test their ability to screen carry-on baggage at a high volume. The company says it achieved “the highest level of threat detection” without making passengers remove laptop computers or liquids.

Neil Thompson, London Luton Airport operations director, praised the experience working with Analogic.

“At London Luton, the safety and security of our passengers is our number one priority,” Thompson said in a prepared statement. “Through the trials with Analogic, we have been able to demonstrate ways to significantly improve security checks. Creating efficiencies through the use of technology is paramount as passenger numbers continue to grow at record levels. Analogic 3D CT technology has shown the promise of providing a great passenger experience whilst improving security.”

“Analogic is continuing to develop products to support new checkpoint screening standards that will begin in Europe in 2016,” Jim Green, Analogic president and CEO, said in the same statement. “The use of CT technology at airport checkpoints is a game changer. Very few technology shifts win on three fronts: a dramatic improvement in threat detection, doubling of operational throughput, and a genuinely better experience for the traveling public. We are pleased to have worked with Schiphol and London Luton airport and numerous regulators to set a higher standard for airport security and move our industry forward.”
