Mesa Biotech, a San Diego-based molecular diagnostic company, has formed a scientific advisory board to oversee the development and commercialization of the company’s infectious disease initiatives.

The company, which developed a testing platform designed for point-of-care infectious disease diagnosis, appointed Steve Young, director of research and clinical trials at TriCore Reference Laboratory in Albuquerque, N.M., as chair of the board, Mesa Biotech announced in a statement.

“We are thrilled to have such a talented and experienced scientific advisory board providing critical expertise to the Mesa Biotech team," said Hong Cai, co-founder and CEO of Mesa Biotech, in a statement. "The background and experience of our advisory board is going to be invaluable as we commercialize our current technology.”

Other members include Angela Caliendo, a professor, vice chair of medicine and vice president of university medicine at the Alpert Medical School at Brown University, Jeanne Jordan, director of George Washington University’s International Institute for Public Health Laboratory Management, and James Nichols, a professor and medical director of clinical chemistry at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

Additionally, Stephen Day, a member of the Expert Panel on Molecular Methods for the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute and the Professional Relations Committee of the Association for Molecular Pathology, and Chris Myers, a virologist and biosurveillance department head at the Naval Health Research Center, will be on the board.
