AI solution for pulmonary embolism workflow receives CE certification

Aidoc, a Tel-Aviv, Israel-based medical imaging company, announced that its AI-based solution for improving pulmonary embolism (PE) workflow has received CE certification.

The solution uses AI to flag and prioritize PEs seen in CT pulmonary angiograms.

According to data from U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, up to 100,000 Americans die of PE annually.

Because PE can have a variable presentation in imaging scans, the software could help physicians better identify obstruction in blood flow to the lungs and may allow for quicker treatment for PE, according to the company.

"Together with our CE marked solutions for flagging intracranial hemorrhage and c-spine fractures, our comprehensive solution runs in the background and gives the radiologist the peace of mind that no urgent cases are sitting at the bottom of the worklist waiting to be read," Aidoc co-founder and CEO Elad Walach said in a prepared statement

The technology will be on display at the 2019 European Congress of Radiology annual meeting in Vienna, Austria.
