FDA approves 2 angiography systems from Siemens Healthineers

Siemens Healthineers announced Monday, Sept. 16, that its ARTIS icono angiography systems have gained FDA clearance. This includes the ARTIS icono biplane system, designed for neuroradiology and abdominal imaging, and the ARTIS icono floor, a floor-mounted system for vascular, interventional cardiology, surgical and oncology procedures.

Both solutions include Siemens Healthineers’ new OPTIC image chain for image processing and Case Flows, which allow users to provide more personalized care and improved documentation.

According to a prepared statement, one key benefit of the ARTIS icono bioplane system is that it was designed to improve care for patients in the immediate aftermath of a stroke.

“The ARTIS icono family of angiography systems will have nothing short of a revolutionary impact on our customers and on the delivery of healthcare in general, by setting new standards for image quality and optimized workflow in minimally invasive procedures,” Lara Barghout, senior vice president and head of advanced therapies for Siemens Healthineers North America, said in a the statement. “And as more hospitals introduce comprehensive stroke services to treat more patients who are eligible for thrombectomies, the ARTIS icono biplane raises the bar in consistent 3D image quality for whole-brain imaging.”
