The owners of Digital Radiology Center and Medisound in Kissimmee, Fla., have been arrested for allegedly defrauding Medicaid out of more than $180,000 in claims.
The two owners, Oscar Alzate and Alba Garcia, are accused of operating the clinic without “the appropriate Agency for Health Care Administration licensure or proper oversight by a physician as required by Florida law,” according to a statement from Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi’s office.
Alzate and Garcia allegedly billed Medicaid for services never rendered, forged physicians’ signatures on medical reports and provided defective mammography services to patients.
Both owners face one count of Medicaid fraud, one count of scheme to defraud, and one count of violation of the Health Care Clinic Act. They each face up to 75 years in prison as well as more than $180,000 in fines.
Back in 2012, the FDA issued a safety notification on the same clinics for performing mammography without an MQSA certificate.
