Thomas H. Berquist, MD, announced this week he’ll be retiring after a 12-year run as editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Roentgenology.
Berquist will step down in June 2020, according to a statement, prompting the American Roentgen Ray Society to launch a search for AJR’s next leader. Applications are available on the organization’s website.
“The new editor must be an internationally recognized author in radiology with a strong background in medical writing and editing,” ARRS officials said in the statement. “This person should also possess the ability to effectively articulate and maintain an editorial vision, climate and philosophy that foster continued growth in quality submissions to AJR, its readership and its reputation among researchers.”
The new editor will also be responsible for ensuring the journal’s scientific integrity and responsiveness to the needs of the radiologic community in the U.S., according to the website. Applications must be submitted by Dec. 15.
“It has been my honor to serve as editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Roentgenology since 2008,” Berquist told Radiology Business over email. “I have decided to conclude my editorship as of June 2020, and I am grateful to all of our section editors, our reviewers and the staff of AJR for all of their efforts in making it the leading resource for practicing physicians and allied health professionals engaged in patient-centered medical imaging.”
